MEET THE FACULTY & GUEST ARTISTS
Thomas Kraines • Cello
Thomas Kraines, a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music
and the Juilliard School, is gaining recognition worldwide
as a cellist, composer, and teacher. He frequently performs
with his wife, violinist Juliette Kang, as well as with the
chamber ensemble Mistral and the free improvisation duo Dithyramb.
Kraines premiered his own |
composition "Three Cello Etudes"
at the Moab Music Festival’s Virtuoso concert in 2003,
and his "Duo for Violin and Cello" was premiered
by Kraines and Kang in 2001.
In 2000, his "Mermaids: Four Cello Etudes" was
choreographed by Harold Sun and performed by the University
of Pennsylvania Dance Company. He has also premiered works
by Shulamit Ran, Osvaldo Golijov, Robert Sirota, Dan Coleman,
and Sheilin Tuli, among others. Mr. Kraines studied with
Frederic Raimi, Orlando Cole, and Joel Krosnick.

| Other teachers have included Aldo
Parisot, Harvey Shapiro, and Neal Cary, and, for composition,
Tom Benjamin. Currently on the faculty of the Longy School
of Music and Phillips Academy Andover, he has also taught
at Princeton University, Columbia University, and the
Peabody Conservatory. |
