Aron Zelkowicz

Aron Zelkowicz, cellist, performer, teacher and administrator, cultivated a repertoire both classical and ethnic. As Founder and Director of Pittsburgh Jewish Music Festival, he programmed over 150 pieces of classical chamber and orchestral music inspired by Jewish traditions, including world premieres and commissions.

Dr. Zelkowicz performed at Tanglewood, Banff, Aspen, Sarasota, Chautauqua, Colorado, Cactus Pear and Sunflower festivals, with members of Emerson and Cleveland Quartets, and with Toronto Symphony, National Arts Centre Orchestra of Canada, on international tours with Pittsburgh Symphony, Charleston Symphony, and as Principal of Miami Symphony Orchestra.  He is based in Boston and performs with Rhode Island Philharmonic, Boston Lyric Opera, ProArte Chamber Orchestra, Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), as Associate Principal of Springfield Symphony Orchestra, and Principal of Boston Landmarks Orchestra.

As a teacher and coach to young string players, Dr. Zelkowicz gives master classes at universities across the nation.  A native of Ottawa, Canada, he grew up in Pittsburgh and received degrees from the Eastman School of Music, Indiana University and Stony Brook University, studying with Paul Katz, Steven Doane, Janos Starker and Colin Carr.
